Page Titles
The easiest way to make the fastest improvement in traffic resulting from improved search rankings is on webpage titles. Your title should not be more than 67 characters in length. No punctuation should be present except a dash or vertical separator bar. A relevant keyword phrase should be placed as close to the front of your webpage title.

Quality Webpage Content
Search engines crave quality content, especially which which stands out about other based on similar keyword phrases. Making sure that your code does not prevent search engine scanning is almost as important as the relevant and helpful content on the page. Quality content is more frequently mentioned on social websites and organically back linked. These are things that search engines love.

Meta Description & Keywords Tags
Meta descriptions used to be considered essential, but that was before webmasters starting stacking the deck. Most SEO workers feel that the Meta Description is no longer used by the prominent search engines, but it does not take long to write an excellent meta description. Use no more than 230 characters. The value of keywords in the body of text is a topic of discussion and debate to this day. To be safe make sure that you have no more than 5 to 8 keywords or keyword phrases used as key word tags and in the body of your content.

Heading Tag Utilization
Each page should have its own heading, notated with an H1 heading tag. Subsequent subheadings, or subtitles, should be numbered by levels sequentially with a tag number H2 through H6, for each similar level. Every webpage on your website should be using headings with relevant keywords present on each section.

Image On-Site Optimization
One of the most overlooked aspects of on-site SEO is the identification and documentation of images. Every image that is relevant to the content on a page should use Alt attribute tags. File names should also use relevant keywords. This is a change to get up a leg on your competition because most people neglect image optimization. There is some indication the algorithms give extra points for page usability when this is done. Those that have sight challenges can use relevant image descriptions using screen readers.

On-Site Use of Link Title Tags
Another often overlooked factor that search engines scan is titles for links that are on your webpage. Failing to use these is passing up another opportunity to be better than your competition. Relevant titles give strength to your keywords and the theme of each page.

Overall Architecture of Your Website
As important as all of the items listed above is making sure that your page coding is well done. There should not be code based blocks to the search engines scanning content that users can see. The content should flow properly and be laid out logically. The reason for this is that any thing considered good for your webpage visitors is looked upon generously by the search engines.
